Coonawarra Accommodation

We know how valuable 'local insight' is when visiting a new region, so I thought I would provide some ideas on Accommodation around Coonawarra for your next visit.

Below are some of our favourites and they are owned by good friends of ours. A small selection to get your research started atleast, but the region has a lot more.

We have such a lovely small knit community here in Coonawarra; not only are these suggestions great places to stay (and I have tried them first hand), but you can trust that the people behind the scenes care deeply about you and will treat you really well. If you need anything while in Coonawarra, don't ever hesitate to get in touch with your hosts, or of course contact us, we're always happy to point you in the right direction.

I hope this article is of help, but if you need more, send us an email any time via cellardoor@patrickofcoonawarra.com.

The Winemaker's House

Owned by Bec and Luke Trotter from "The Blok", this accommodation couldn't be closer to Patrick's Cellar Door if we tried — it's just across the highway from us. This accommodation is pretty special; it has a fireplace, a bath (+shower), heated floor in the bathroom, 3 bedrooms (+ a sofabed) and it's surrounded by vineyards. It's a magical place to wake up.

A Coonawarra Experience

Owned by Kerry and Simon Meares, who also own "Coonawarra Experiences", our local tour company. Simon and Kerry, originally from Melbourne and fans of Coonawarra from afar, moved their life here a few years ago "because they loved it so much". It's worth staying with Kerry and Simon, and I highly recommend staying a few days and booking a tour with them. They know the region inside out and will give you a truly special experience of Coonawarra.

Coonawarra Cottages

Owned by Deb and Mal Redman, these two are just fabulous humans. Deb has an eye for style and her cottages don't miss a beat. Deb and Mal are of course related to the Redman Winery, which is a 'must visit' when coming to town — Great wines and great humans. Deb has 3 cottages available of different sizes, all of them in the Coonawarra township (10 min drive from Patrick).

Glamping at Bellwether

If you love glamping, Bellwether is worth looking into. Owned by Winemaker Sue Bell, Bellwether is also a must visit when visiting Coonawarra, whether it's for a wine tasting or for accommodation. I have personally camped and glamped at Sue's and there is nothing that beats that sunrise. There are warm showers and toilets for all campers, very private and feel premium and homely.

Cameron's Cottage

Also managed by Cate Cooper, but Cate doesn't own this one. Cameron's Cottage is so cute, I highly recommend it. A quaint historic cottage, 2 Bedrooms with very comfortable beds, a bath, a lovely backyard and reading room/nook. Located in the centre of Penola, round the corner from the IGA and caffés.
