Exploring Mount Gambier: The Story Behind Our Two-Blocks Range
Our passion for exceptional wines often takes us beyond the boundaries of our own vineyards. The Two-Blocks range perfectly exemplifies this, bringing together thoughtfully sourced fruit to create approachable, modern wines that reflect both our philosophy and the unique terroir of the Limestone Coast’s emerging regions.
The latest addition to the Two-Blocks range is our 2025 Two Blocks Pinot Gris. – fresh, vibrant, and easy-drinking, perfect with seasonal spring produce. It joins the acclaimed Two-Blocks Pinot Noir, Shiraz, and Riesling, offering a versatile range for wine lovers to enjoy.
Why Mount Gambier?
Mount Gambier, located just south of Coonawarra, is an emerging cool-climate wine region known for producing elegant and expressive wines. Its moderate coastal climate, even temperatures, and unique soils make it ideal for crafting distinctive varietals that complement the Patrick of Coonawarra style. By sourcing select fruit from this region for the Two-Blocks range, we’re able to create wines that are balanced, approachable, and reflective of both the vineyard and the region’s character.

The Mount Gambier Vineyard
Our Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris come from a special vineyard in the Mount Gambier region, planted on sandy soils that benefit from the cool coastal influence, giving the wines their signature brightness and elegance. Beyond the exceptional terroir, the vineyard holds a personal connection. It’s owned by my old high school principal, Terry Strickland and his wife, Helen. It’s a delightful twist of fate that now, years later, he can visit me in my office instead of the other way around. This connection adds a layer of joy and nostalgia to every bottle, reminding us that great wine often grows alongside great memories and friendship.
The Legacy of Two-Blocks
The Two-Blocks range is all about harmony. By selecting fruit from two carefully chosen blocks—often from both Coonawarra and Wrattonbully — we can combine flavours and structures to craft wines that are consistent, approachable, and rewarding from vintage to vintage. The Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris sit beautifully alongside the Shiraz and Riesling, giving wine lovers a chance to explore the versatility and elegance of the range.
Luke reflects on the experience, “Most winemakers love Pinot because it’s a ‘winemaker’s wine’ — there’s room to experiment, make small batches, and see what works. That creative freedom is something we carry into the Two Blocks range, blending the best of both worlds to produce wines that people can enjoy immediately, or cellar for later.”
