A rare expression of Tasmanian single malt, matured for eight years in a remarkable 50 year old tawny cask (Yes, the same barrels used for the Chook Shed Tawny). The influence of the ancient fortified oak has created a whisky of exceptional richness and complexity, balancing vibrant malt character with layers of mature oak and dried fruit.
The nose opens with aromas of caramelised orange peel, raisins, toasted almonds and dark honey, interwoven with vanilla bean, baking spice and polished oak. On the palate, silky malt sweetness gives way to flavours of butterscotch, figs, dark toffee and roasted hazelnuts, complemented by subtle notes of cocoa, cinnamon and the lingering influence of aged tawny. The finish is long, warming and elegant, leaving impressions of dried fruits, gentle spice and fine oak.
